MILITARY SERVICE UPDATE
April 15th, 2020 – Second Lieutenant David Nelson is the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN) Officer for the Alaska Army National Guard’s 207th Aviation Battalion based at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson (JBER).
As the Battalion CBRN Officer, he was activated by his unit on March 16th to participate in training events which centered on fitting and certifying multiple aircrews with back up Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which may be required to transport possible COVID-19 patients. Along with other Alaska Army National Guard members, he flew to Guard facilities in Nome, Bethel, Fairbanks, and Juneau to conduct training. He ordered decontamination (DECON) equipment to be sent to those sites and prepared training plans on its proper use. Lieutenant Nelson is currently setting up and maintaining a DECON shower site for aircrews returning to JBER from a flight.
As he continues to serve on active duty until further notice, his campaign will continue in accordance with DOD procedures.
